In order to get my project to work with the standalone database I have been editing the persistence. I have been using the command line method instead which seems to work just fine.
I add the driver to the netbeans database Drivers, try to connect to a local database giving the exact location of the hsqldb jar file to be used. These include table spaces for disk-based tables, more compatibility functions and improved SQL routine support.
