If you get a “regular” cable modem like Linksys or Motorolathat hasn’t been crippled by the ISP, you should have no problems. The terrible outsourced tech support isn’t much help either. Just get one that is “modem only”.
If your ISP is not allowing web sites hosted on residential connections, they may block port 80 incoming to your modem. Most cable ISPs do not allow you to operate a web site on your residential cable connection.
Or they may turn off features in the cable modem that allows it to do port forwarding. Do you think that if I change the modem buy another brand like Linksys it will work?? Did someone manage to find a way to do the port forwarding?
Has anyone found anything? How many computers hook up to the cable? Is this guy serious or for real?

If you need a router, buy it as a separate unit, that way you can make them do what you want, not what the ISP allows you to do. Are we seeing the end of the road for the Windows NT kernel?
